A big Monday greetings to the whole community!
It’s a big week here at Real Women of Philadelphia. Starting this afternoon, and every day through Thursday, Anna we will be announcing the finalists in our Kitchen of Your Dreams contest, closing the week with the grand prize winner announcement on Friday. Can you stand the suspense?
Now, the kitchen may be the heart of the home, but it's certainly not the only place you can cook! So, share with us today:

Where is the most unusual place you have ever cooked? Were you camping? On vacation? Visiting friends? Join the conversation below!
Have a wonderful week and we'll see you back here this afternoon!

Running lake is a remote lake in Northern Alberta. it was a long winter, my husband and I really had enough snow and cold weather. we packed up pork chops. potatoes veggies and headed for the lake. with great difficultly we got to the picnic area we dug down thru the snow to the top of the picnic table then proceeded to dig a place for our fire . we brought our wood my husband started the fire and we cooked on a ole bbq grill that was attached to to a tripod which was over the fire ... it was the best pork chops we ever had. -

I prepared a full meal for our neighbours at our lot. There is no power, so everything was cooked over the open fire. They kept volunteering to get their bbq but we declined and kept cooking. Was a great meal -
Wow. I just can't compete with all you outdoorsy type. I can clearly remember about 35 years ago we were renting a cottage for a long weekend with our two young boys. We got to the rental area and the better cottages were all taken, but the lady said I do have a small cabin that you can have for a reasonable price. We looked at the cabin and I just about cried. My husband and the boys were fine with it, but I just did not know what to do. The poor lady renting the cabin actually apologized and I remember vividly what she said, Dear, I jut don't know what to do for you. I wish I had something better to offer you". We left after the one night. -
Years ago I went on a canoe trip. We decided to take pasta and cook it over an open flame. It's difficult to get your pasta al dente in the wilderness! -
My family enjoys going to the lake and rouging it in a tent trailer One day I decided to try pizza on the firepit not only did it get burnt it slid right into the fire when I was trying to get it off the pit rack. Never again. We ended up eating hotdogs again. -
Wow -- you're an adventurous group! I've never even cooked over an open fire -- whenever we go camping we either bring or are near to a barbeque or have some kind of portable stove or griddle. I do love all of the things I have learned to barbeque over the years, though! Have you ever had barbequed pizza? Quite a treat! And grilled fruit is delicious. -
Once upon a time I went on a canoeing portage trip deep into Lake of the Woods. Our intention was to travel light and to catch what we were going to eat - except we city kids weren't the best fishermen(women). I had the presence of mind to bring along some ramen noodles and, in desperation on day 2, I tried to cook them over the open fire and turned them to ramen mush. Everyone with me that day learned a valuable lesson: Lyndsay needs to be fed. it was not pretty ;) -
We cook while camping often, but it's far from "roughing it" as I usually have electricity to plug in my grills, toaster, and coffee maker :) This weekend we're going camping with no hookups so it will mean camping stove and campfire so I'm totally chickening out on the food end. However in my defence, it's pretty hard to cook pancakes for 12 people using just two burners on a small camping stove :) -
Ask anyone who knows me. You name it, I'm always up to a challenge. In a house with a mouse, by a lake I'll cook a drake. All kidding aside my most favourite is a firepit. I'll make fire from scratch and throw together a feast. YUM to my TUM TUM !!! -
It would have to be in junior high...cooking class! With your group of four, making all sorts of dishes, and having to eat them or you lose part of your grade. I'll never forget the raisin carrot salad! That was just wrong! lol I really feel the teacher just brought things from her home that were going to waste! ;) -
Years ago now...I got to go on a several day hike, up and over a mountain along what is called the skyline trail in Jasper Alberta. Fantastic! The group I was with cooked our meals over little burners in single pots, because there was no fires allowed. It was not so much the cooking that was the memorable, but the toilets along the trail...they were just a simple open air common spot with a billion dollar view. -
camping on the coleman bbq and we had one of those special grills where you could do bacon and eggs (in the rain of course, cus it always rained when we went) -
As teenagers, my sister and I went camping in the middle of nowhere, without any cooking supplies, we cooked food on a flat rock on the beach heated by a campfire, it wasn't all that tasty but it was food. I think that was the last time I went camping. -

I made fresh tortillas inside a small outdoor room (basically just a roof) with a family in Guatemala ... SO delicious!
