My Favourite Halloween Costumes
Halloween is almost here!
We have 3 schools on our street, and neighbours who really do it up right when it comes to Halloween! Some have fog machines, strobe lights and zombies popping up behind faux gravestones -- so clearly we get a ton of kids on Halloween night. (In fact, I've even seen carloads of kids get dropped off from other neighbourhoods!)
I love seeing the trends in costumes, but my all-time favourite was a 4-year old girl dressed up like a little chef, and her 1-year old sister, dressed as a little lobster, being held by Mom in a giant stockpot. How cute is that! I even had an Anna Olson trick-or-treater in costume come to the door one year. Now, that was flattering.
When I was young, I would always plan my costumes with friends, and we’d make a theme out of it. A couple of my favourites were Sherlock Holmes and Watson and Mona Lisa and Leonardo Da Vinci. And from ages 6 to 9, I had to dress as a gypsy every year. Oh, and of course, my mom did the requisite pumpkin costume for me as a toddler!

one year when i was a kid my mom dressed me up as the wicked witch of the west(wizard of oz) and i went out to show my dad my scary green face and my dog took one look at me and booked it tail between his legs! i must have been scary :) -

I went once as a newspaper (rolled up). Costume was easy to make, just wrapped myself in nespapers until roll formed. Needed help.

i went as the "Potato Queen" when i was 9 because my dad was a potato grower. My mom made me a burlap dress and cape, and I even had a scepter with a potato on top! I won a prize for that one!

Several friends & I dressed up as Tin men - very easy and was really fun to play this role!!

My friend and I dressed up as gorillas one year. I was the female by wearing a boa and she was the male by wearing a hat. We went to Stampede Wrestling as Halloween was on Friday night that year and that's when wrestling was on. We were on television throughout the night.

My mom made me a Little Red Riding Hood costume when I was in kindergarten, and I loved it.

a group of us went as maytag appliances and even had a maytag repair man with us. We won first prize!

I remember dressing up as Miss Kitty from the TV western Gun Smoke. Looking back I guess it wasn't the most appropriate as I think Miss Kitty might have been a madame but I had no idea at the time! -

The best costume was the one i made for myself in grade 6, where i wore green tights and a jack o'lantern garbage bag that i tied up with string. The rest of the class appreciated it too, as i won the title "most original halloween costume"!
