When I was growing up, there were three flavours of ice cream I loved: mint chocolate chip, pistachio and coconut pineapple. Decades ago, those were among the more adventurous flavours of the day. And, wow, when strawberry cheesecake came out and cookies ’n’ cream soon followed with OREO cookies, they rounded off my top 5 favourite ice cream flavours -- and still do today. :)

These days, it seems any ice cream flavour goes. Lavender, wasabi, basil, avocado, bacon…Things you never imagined as a creamy treat are now at an ice cream or gelato joint near you. I wonder what flavours member Kate Badenhorst has at her ice cream shop today?
Do you enjoy the daring ice cream flavours of today or do you cling to the flavours of your childhood? And if you were to invent your own daring ice cream flavour, what would it be?
Don’t forget to add some Philly flavour to the mix!

Beer or mushroom ice cream...wow, I can't say I'd actually crave those every day, but the Six Deuces is definitely tempting! -
When the summer heat hits, my favourite ice cream for pure refreshment is something called "Six Deuces" - you will never find it in a store but it is a staple in east Texas, where I first fell in love with traditional barbeque. Its super easy to make, too:
2 cups sugar
2 cups cream
2 cups milk
2 mashed bananas
juice of 2 oranges (use juice oranges, not navels!)
juice of 2 lemons
Mash the bananas with the orange juice until you get a fine slop. In a big separate bowl, whisk the sugar into the milk and cream until it dissolves, then add the banana slop and the lemon juice into the cream mix. Chill completely, and then pour into your ice cream maker and, well, make ice cream. You probably have the directions on how to use your ice cream maker, so go by those :)
That's it! SUPER simple. One thing you might do is taste the mix after chilling - if the lemon is too bright, add the zest (SUPER fine) of one of the oranges. And if you have a tiny ice cream maker, you can scale everything down to "1" instead of "2" and it will work just fine.
Interestingly, families who have really BIG ice cream makers tend to call this "Six Thees" because they use 3 of everything. When you hear someone in east Texas say "Six Threes" you can safely hate them because they have a KINGER ice cream machine. Jerks. -
My husband likes ice-cream after dinner he also drinks one beer before dinner ... it would be interesting to have a beer flavoured ice cream -

When it comes to ice cream, I have many favourites like coffee, hot chocolate fudge,oreos,brownie.....but if I have to try something unconventional, I will try something with cream cheese base with a spicy kick. -
Butterscotch ripple was always my favourite. Recently I tried a mushroom ice cream that was actually very tasty. And anything with brownies or cookies always makes my list too!! -
Yum, Erin, that sounds fabulous! And Heather, wowie, mustard ice cream on top of gazpacho sounds like an amazing and unique summer treat! -

My latest fav is vanilla bean icecream with red velvet brownie frosted with philly cream cheese and chocolate chunks... -
I would do a chocolate caramel brownie flavour and make it sweet and salty. Love ice cream! Heather, the mustard ice cream for gazpacho sounds fascinating. -

We have an ice cream maker but we have never tried to make any wild combinations of things. Meyer lemon gelato has been my favorite to date. We did make a Mustard ice cream once to go on top of gazpacho for a dinner party, it was a big hit! -
My own daring ice cream flavour would be dark chocolate cheesecake with big pieces of almond and chunks of chocolate in it! And it must be gluten free for me! I love ice cream and the nuttier and chunkier the better! But since I went gluten free over a year and half ago I cannot seem to find any interesting flavours that I can eat. -

I know...I am strange...I am not really into ice cream. So I guess if I had to pick a favorite flavor it would be vanilla with the addition of nuts, depending on my mood. -
My favourite flavours are and always have been, sweet and nutty. Maple walnut sundaes were a favourite so maple walnut ice cream of course is my number one choice. Butter pecan, pralines and cream and pistachio are also up there. If I could make a flavour of my own I think I would combine cashews and macadamia nuts with a caramel swirl in it. Yum!
