Have you entered your recipe into the Cheesecake of the Year contest? What unique ingredients top your cheesecake?
There was a time, in the distant past, beyond anyone’s memory, when cheesecakes had no toppings. Could it be? As delicious as we all know cheesecake is on its own, it’s hard to imagine a world without such delicious additions as berries or crumbled OREO cookies on top. Here are some topping options, from old favourites to new, quirky choices to inspire your entries this week!
1. Berries. Whether you’re cooking up cherries or strawberries in a sauce or just sprinkling some fresh raspberries or blueberries over the top, any kind of berry is always reliable!
2. Chocolate Bars. Chocolate syrup, chips and even cookies are some classics, but what’s your favourite candy bar? Well, I certainly hope you’ve tried one chopped up on top of a cheesecake!
3. Citrus and Honey. The pungency of citrus and sweetness of honey are so delicious coupled with a tangy, creamy cheesecake! There’s a terrific recipe for an Orange-Honey Cheesecake on Cooking with Philly and other great options are lemons or grapefruits with agave or maple syrup!
4. Herbs. Everyone knows basil is great with pasta, rosemary makes for delicious pork tenderloin and lavender has one of the most wonderful scents out there. But have you tried these in your cheesecakes? The aromas from these herbs will add an incredible new level to your cheesecake flavour!
5. Candied Bacon. Finding bacon in unexpected places is a very hot cooking trend right now! So what better place to find it than on a cheesecake? It can be crumbled or sliced, or even whole, as member Kate Eaton has done here in her Candied Bacon Cheesecake recipe!
So what makes the perfect topping? Tell us below!
And don’t forget to submit your recipes and photos to our Cheesecake of the Year contest!

The contest runs through September 2, but if you submit your valid entry by Sunday, August 19, at 11:59 pm ET, you will automatically receive an entry into this week’s random draw for a chance to win a KitchenAid® Stand Mixer. The more recipes you enter, the better your chances are to win!

My fave: Cherries fresh-picked off the tree, in a lightly-sweetened sauce, a hint of lemon, and then covered with toasted sliced almonds. Yummmmm. (I use ground almonds in the crust as well.) -
Fruit is delicious on cheesecakes, isn't it? I adore berries on cheesecake. I have also enjoyed experimenting with herb and spice flavours like mint, basil, ginger and poppy with my cheesecakes! -
I love cheesecakes with any type of berry. Blueberries, raspberries or strawberries are my favorite. -
